Epson EcoTank, Driverless and Linux

A few days ago I bought inks for my HP Color LaserJet Pro M377dw. They were quite costly, so I looked around other manufacturers that in the past were Linux-friendly. I ended up on an Epson multifunction printer that seems as good as mine but with inks that cost by far a lot less:

EcoTank ET-5170 | Epson Italia

The only issue is that they cite the usual proprietary operative systems.

Can I assume that given that MacOS uses CUPS the very same printing of Linux any printer labelled as MacOS X compatible will work with Linux? Has the promise of Driverless Printing being fulfilled? Last time I tried the answer was a big yes, but I would like to be sure.
