Il Digital Markets Act (DMA), ossia il nuovo regolamento per i mercati digitali dell’Unione Europea, avr\u00e0 una conseguenza inaspettata: la fine delle progressive web app su iPhone<\/strong>. Dopo diversi giorni di incertezze, Apple ha confermato che non si tratta di un bug<\/strong> ma di una scelta deliberata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oltre alla possibilit\u00e0 di installare marketplace alternativi<\/a>, una delle novit\u00e0 pi\u00f9 importanti portate dal DMA sar\u00e0 la possibilit\u00e0 di sviluppare browser per iOS con motori di rendering proprietari<\/a>, e non pi\u00f9 basati solo su WebKit (il motore creato da Apple, lo stesso usato da Safari).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proprio da questo, arriva la decisione di Apple di eliminare il supporto alle progressive web app (PWA): l’azienda ha dichiarato che le web app basate su WebKit si “allineavano agli standard di sicurezza e privacy<\/strong> di iOS”, ma che questo non sar\u00e0 pi\u00f9 possibile con engine alternativi, che potrebbero permettere a web app malevole di leggere dati da altre web app e ottenere l’accesso a fotocamera, microfono e posizione senza l’esplicito consenso dell’utente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Per chiarificare, ricordiamo che le progressive web app sono (o sarebbe meglio dire erano?<\/em>) quelle web app che possono essere utilizzate quasi come se fossero app native<\/strong>: una volta aggiunte alla homepage, si aprono a tutto schermo (senza barra delle URL), possono inviare notifiche e salvare dati separatamente rispetto al browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Con iOS 17.4, non saranno pi\u00f9 disponibili in Europa su iPhone per via dei possibili rischi di sicurezza citati ad Apple (ma continueranno a esistere su Android). Considerando che Google e Mozilla gi\u00e0 non erano contenti<\/a> di come Apple stesse aprendo agli altri browser, lo stop alle WPA sar\u00e0 un altro tasto dolente per chi sperava in una competizione pi\u00f9 libera nei browser.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
