Ubuntu, una delle distribuzioni Linux pi\u00f9 popolari al mondo, sta per compiere una svolta epocale: abbandonare GNU\/Linux per abbracciare tecnologie moderne,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Non \u00e8 una questione di “evoluzione tecnologica” e di “rimanere al passo coi tempi”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vogliono prendere programmi di base, robusti, che funzionano bene, che da decenni risultano stabili e sottoposti a controlli minuziosi e di comprovata sicurezza con qualcosa scritta ex-novo in Rust, che \u00e8 certamente un buon linguaggio ma non \u00e8 la panacea di ogni male.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inoltre la stragrande maggioranza dei commentatori non colgono la questione fondamentale: non \u00e8 se siano scritti in Rust, in C, Assembly o Visual Basic cambi qualcosa, ma il fatto che la licenza che useranno, ossia \u201ctipo MIT\u201d permette di re-impacchettare il tutto e renderlo proprietario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Linux e BSD son nati praticamente negli stessi anni. Linux ha prosperato perch\u00e9 ha usato licenze persistenti, mentre BSD \u00e8 rimasto di nicchia perch\u00e9 la sua licenza non \u00e8 persistente<\/strong>, esattamente come la MIT.
Il vero problema \u00e8 che la maggior parte delle persone non coglie questo aspetto fondamentale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La General Public License in tutte le sue edizioni rende persistenti<\/strong> le libert\u00e0 che il suo autore concede a chi riceve la sua opera (il codice). Si dice che \u00e8 una licenza a permesso d’autore<\/strong> ossia “copyleft” in inglese (letteralmente “permesso alla copia”) con un evidente e voluto gioco di parole in apparente contrapposizione con il “copyright” cio\u00e8 il diritto alla copia. Le licenze di software libero non copyleft come quelle tipo BSD e MIT non sono persistenti, chiunque pu\u00f2 prendere il codice e chiuderlo dentro ad un prodotto proprietario. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
