Today, in my Fediverse flow of posts I found the Italian article \u00abFavnyr il moderno file manager per Linux e Windows<\/a>\u00bb, i.e. \u00abFavnyr the modern<\/strong> file manager for Linux and Windows\u00bb about a new multi-panel file manager. <\/p>\n\n\n

I was going to start my usual old-man rant (yelling at clouds<\/a>) as there are already at least two separate free-as-in-freedom projects with all those features: pcmanfm<\/a>, its fork pcmanfm-qt<\/a> and spacefm<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I issued apt install spacefm pcmanfm<\/code> on my Debian machine, ready to take a couple of screenshot. Too bad that running it without arguments just crashes the program. You must prompt spacefm –display=:0 I guess to force GTK3 library to use the X11 user interface instead of the “more modern” Wayland. PcManFM runs fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I understand why they started favnyr: spacefm has that taste of “let’s allow the user to tweak everything, fully exposing the mnitty\/twitty technicalities” while pcmanfm only allows for two columns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
