I have most of the useful PDF packages installed: <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">bookmarks<\/code>, <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">graphicx<\/code>, etc..<\/p>\n<p>Pen and paper role playing games have a wide range for formatting mostly adding tables, graphics (images, maps, etc&#8230;), and text. The latter can be in-character fiction, generic descriptions, and game rules. Some have layouts that are genra specific (for example, science fiction will have a printed circuit board border between two columns). A good example of layout would be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strategypage.com\/htmw\/htweap\/articles\/20110727.aspx\">Eclipse Phase<\/a> which you can get <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediafire.com\/file\/5y21jnmwmqt\/CAT21000_EclipsePhase.pdf\">here<\/a> &#8212; creative commons.<\/p>\n<p>The main book layout seems to do most of what I need it to. However, I have seen the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctan.org\/pkg\/memoir\"><code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">memoir<\/code><\/a> class that seems to more more suitable but I have had no experience in using it. Does anyone?<\/p>\n<p>For indexes, I use the <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">makeidx<\/code> package, is there anything better?<\/p>\n<p>Any other suggestions of packages that would be helpful for authoring RPGs?<\/p>\n<p>Nothing is wrong with what I am currently using, I am just looking for people who have done the same kind of things for something &#8220;better&#8221; href=\"https:\/\/tex.stackexchange.com\/q\/12672\/215\">Here is an excellent summary.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want sideways tables, the <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">rotating<\/code> packge&#8217;s <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">sidewaystable<\/code> environment might be useful.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re building a big book, you probably don&#8217;t want to recompile for every time you make some change to a big table. The <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">standalone<\/code> package allows you to keep the big table in a separate file which can be compiled separately.<\/p>\n<h1>Graphics<\/h1>\n<p>Including pictures can easily be done with the <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">graphics<\/code> or <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">graphicx<\/code> packages.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing your own diagrams can be achieved with <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">tikz<\/code> or with <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">pstricks<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>Adding a background image to the page could be achieved with <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">eso-pic<\/code>. (I think, I haven&#8217;t tested this).<\/p>\n<h1>Large scale formatting<\/h1>\n<p>As Martin mentioned in the comments, <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">memoir<\/code> is a nice package for typesetting books.
