That said, your YouTube history is very different than sensitive material like, say, your name, social security number, or bank info\u2014all of which Google handles differently, and there are separate tools for managing such data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-77igqf-0 hJpRRP\">A more tangible reason is that deleting your data is helpful for up-to-date content (and ad) curation. People change, our tastes evolve, and periodically deleting your outdated content history is like giving your YouTube, Google Play, or even Google Podcast recommendations a refresh based on your current interests.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"kbbplc-0 mmwhk\">How to auto-delete your Google data<\/h3>\n<p class=\"sc-77igqf-0 hJpRRP\">This process is almost identical on both mobile and web. We\u2019ll focus on the latter, but the former is easy to figure out, too:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"sc-1lmbno3-1 cWHLxx\" data-type=\"List\" data-style=\"Number\">\n<li>Go to your <a class=\"sc-145m8ut-0 iwOlBA js_link sc-1out364-0 fwjlmD\" href=\"https:\/\/myactivity.google.com\/myactivity\" data-ga=\"[[&quot;Embedded Url&quot;,&quot;External link&quot;,&quot;https:\/\/myactivity.google.com\/myactivity&quot;,{&quot;metric25&quot;:1}]]\">Google activity dashboard<\/a> (you\u2019ll need to sign in to your Google account first).<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>\u201cActivity controls\u201d<\/strong> from the left-hand sidebar.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to the data type you wish to manage, then select <strong>\u201cManage Activity.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>On this next page, click on \u201cChoose how long to keep\u201d under the calendar icon.<\/li>\n<li>Select the auto-deletion time you wish (three or 18 months), or you can choose to delete your data manually.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>\u201cNext\u201d <\/strong>to save your changes.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat these steps for each of the types of data you want to be auto-deleted. For your Location History in particular, you\u2019ll need to click on \u201cToday\u201d in the upper-left corner first, and then click on the gear icon in the lower-right corner of your screen.
