I love free-as-in-freedom hardware and software much more than plastic. 🙂
I’ve knowingly bought it even if it is plastic because the value of being able to control all the hardware and all the software is priceless and it is worth much much more than the eventual problems arising from the case being “just plastic”…. 🙂
You could even produce an all-metal military-grade case right now….

sadly my own HP48 proved not to be ever-lasting even if I treated it with utmost care. it just died some years after I graduate and it couldn’t even repair it becuase but that time HP had already dismantled their calculator division.
I would have paid an hefty premium to get some hardened case and hw tought for the NumWorks.
