Filling niches

Commodore’s Callback 8020 is a $499 flip phone that blocks social media and browsers

This is obviosuly a blatant exploitation of our nostalgia as older folks but I can’t blame them for that as it fills a niche. I am also looking for a simpler phone. My desiderata are:

  • 4G and Wifi
  • CardDAV support. I manage all them with my own NextCloud instance
  • CalDAV support. Ibidem
  • Tethering. I need to give networking to my laptop when out of home.
  • Instant messaging: Telegram, Signal, Session, SimpleX
  • Be SMALL. And by small I mean the size of a HMD Terra,

Enter unihertz.com phone. Look at their Jelly series, especially Jelly Star – The World’s Smallest Android 13 Smartphone. Three inches display; 95.1 × 49.6 × 18.7 mm; 116 g (With Battery). I just wish they support non-Google OSes and it would be perfect.
