Well, it’s really a shame that such a tool is slowly fading into Debian’s oldstable and oldoldstable.

Then I found why: it’s written in Perl which is a perfectly good programming language but it is currently considered too “old-fashioned”. It is also “stuck” using the old Gnome 2 libraries and it shows all its aging. You may say that software does not “age” and you are right. I expected it would install a lot of old libraries so I tried to issue sudo apt install shutter on my Debian box just to see how many packages it would have pulled. It failed. Oh, my. I can resign myself to use the simpler Gnome 3 screenshot tool.

Secondo voi una società che si chiama “Poste Italiane” e che ha avuto per più di un secolo il monopolio della posta in Italia non avrebbe come “missione aziendale” nel XXI secolo di offrire servizi di posta elettronica?

Ovvio che sì. Ed in fatti Poste Italiane con la diffusione dell’email ha offerto per anni un ottimo servizio di e-mail. Gratuito

Che ora hanno chiuso.

Lo volete un consiglio? Riaprite le e-mail!

Han chiuso quello gratis ed è diventato a pagamento, direte voi.

No. Han chiuso sic-et-simpliciter. Manco han detto “sapete che da gennaio la casella sarà a pagamento x€/anno? Clicca qui, per pagare $X+$Y ed avere millemila giga di casella! Anzi, se paghi anche +$Z te la facciamo diventare pure PEC!”

No. I fantomagici (ed immagino strapagati) dirigenti di Poste Italiane han deciso che vendere un servizio di posta (elettronica, liscio)  gli schifa.

Io non l’ho usata professionalmente ma immagino che in molti lo han fatto. Sai che scocciatura, per non dire che danno, dover contattare tutti i clienti vecchi e nuovi ed i fornitori e dirgli che cambiavano email?

Io avrei pagato VOLENTIERI per mantenere il mio indirizzo paolo.redaelli@poste.it! Oh, se avrei pagato!

Ed invece questi geni mi han mandato questo:

Per farlo, è sufficiente inviare una richiesta dalla tua casella Postmail all’indirizzo chiusurapostemail@poste.it indicandoci il nuovo indirizzo e-mail. Il servizio rimarrà attivo fino al 31 gennaio 2020.

La cosa assurda è che offrono un servizio di Posta Elettronica Certificata. Ma han dovuto usare un dominio separato. Ma cosa si fumano?

«Top Cryptocurrencies Rated by White Paper Complexity» is an interesting read. It subtitle recites:

Studying the correlation between the readability of white papers and the money raised.

It seems that when you write in English the dumber the better.

While I must admit that often English allow to express yourself in a briefer yet more effective way, I want to signal the danger of excessive simplification of the language.

Of course, being simple is not being simplicistic, as in this quote, often attributed to Albert Einstein:

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

I like this saying because it compactly articulates the principle of Occam’s razor.
