Arabella erased

Posted on 2016-06-13 by Paolo Redaelli

Oh, with great sadness I read that Salvatore Aranzulla cancellato da Wikipedia: il “maestro Manzi” dell’informatica considerato non enciclopedico
I may be wrong but AFAICS he is the same Aranzulla that fifteen years ago were writing colossal, gross lies about GNU Linux.
If that’s the case I don’t cry

Debianisms

Posted on 2016-06-07 by Paolo Redaelli

I was going to enable mod_rewrite on the new work box, discovering that CentOS doesn’t have a2enmod. So reading apache 2.2 – CentOS“-bash: a2enmod: command not found” – from Server Fault I discovered that

a2enmod is a debianism, on CentOS you will need to do this manually. Please refer to the Apache documentation to find out how to do this.

Life is full of surprises

Little, hidden gems.

Posted on 2016-06-062016-06-06 by Paolo Redaelli

I was looking for a Tiny Core image with Firefox preinstalled, found this spartan web page: Marketplace – Firefox – GNS3

That has a hidden gem in it: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/gns-3/Qemu%20Appliances/linux-tinycore-linux-6.4-firefox-33.1.1-2.img

A bootable image with a pretty recent web browser.

It’s always useful.

Stonex One real identity

Posted on 2016-06-062016-06-06 by Paolo Redaelli

I’m an happy owner of an aging Stonex Ultra. I live near Stonex, less than 5km and I’m pretty biased toward them. So it hurts to discover that their latest phone Stonex One is actually an AMOI, rebranded phone (article in italian).

I knew they were china-phones, I just thought they sold it with support. I may better support fairphone.

How Mark Zuckerberg Led Facebook’s War to Crush Google Plus

In Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg built not just a business, but a company culture with the fervor of a messianic sect.

Quite frankly I don’t know who may become the next dark knight. Together with Apple, I mean.

Cross Platform Fixed Point Maths Library

Cross Platform Fixed Point Maths Library from Google Code Archive – Long-term storage for Google Code Project Hosting.

Grabbed it before Google shut down everything!

No need to reimplement everything, just as I plan to do with quad-precision floats.
