Well, I read something about this Empire of the Petal Throne – Wikipedia and while everyone keep saying that it’s author is “a forgotten Tolkien” I don’t think so. He’s not a Tolkien. Tolkien had something that Barker chose to discard and it shows in the underlying fabric of his work, something easily spottable even in encyclopedia entries. So it is not my piece of cake.
